Anyone! We want to love and serve people no matter what their life looks like right now. There are no location or financial requirements you have to meet to get food from Fruit of the Vine.
We are open twice a week, every week on Tuesday from 6:00pm - 8:00pm and Saturday from 9:30am - 11:30am.
Our food shelf operates on a first come, first served basis. When you arrive, please park in the back lot and enter through the double doors. In the entryway, you will see a sandwich board with a ticket dispenser. On arrival, please take a ticket from the dispenser (you must have a ticket to be called). Tickets are available at 4pm on Tuesdays and 8am on Saturdays. Next, a friendly volunteer will check you into our database. After that, head to the waiting room and enjoy a cup of coffee, water, and some snacks. You can also look through the free clothing closet while you wait.
When we start distribution, we will call numbers and shop with guests in numerical order. Depending on your number, you may wait up to 60 minutes to shop. We assure you that volunteers do their best to get everyone through the line in a timely and efficient manner.
Once your number is called a personal shopper will assist you if needed. If you have any dietary restrictions or allergies, you can let your personal shopper know and they will help you with your needs.
We offer lots of varieties of food and limited hygiene items. You can access soup, vegetables, beans, and fruit; boxed dinners, pasta, and pasta sauce, breakfast items and juice, fresh produce, meat, and dairy. Once you’ve picked out your food, volunteers will weigh your food and enter the poundage into our database. Finally, a volunteer will be available to help you carry your groceries to your car!
First-time guests are asked to register. It is a self certification document and no proofs are required.
Guests can come to the food shelf twice per month.
Please let the check-in volunteer know if you have dietary restrictions, we are happy to accommodate.
If you can’t make it to the food shelf yourself, you can send someone as your “proxy” to pick up on your behalf. They need to bring a copy of your permission confirming you’ve given them permission to pick up for you. If they are receiving food as well, they can pick it up for you and themselves, however a scheduled appointment is preferred.
There are some public transportation options for getting to our food shelf. The DTA has routes that regularly come to Kenwood plaza, about a block away. Call the DTA at (218) 722.7283, and someone will help you find a route to us. If you can’t afford the bus, call the county and explain your situation.
Call (218) 726.2101 to ask for an intake to see about getting a social worker or case manager that might be able to get you access to financial assistance or a bus pass if you qualify. If you are disabled in a way that makes it so you can’t use the DTA, you can take STRIDE through the DTA. Contact them at (218) 722.3327 for more info.
Our Facebook page is an excellent resource to keep up-to-date with what's happening at our food shelf. You can follow us on Facebook via the button below. Typically, we will announce closures in advance on our Facebook page and through flyers or signage at the food shelf.
During your visit, you may be asked if you would like prayer. Our volunteers love to pray for people! We know that we all struggle in this life and that we all need to lean on God to get through it. We would love to hear your prayer requests and pray for you right on the spot. Don’t worry, we won’t do anything unusual or weird. We will never coerce you to receive prayer, and we will never, under any circumstance, deny you food because of your personal beliefs. We want to offer the opportunity for prayer if you do so desire. We hope that you feel loved and welcomed at the food shelf, and experience the love and compassion of Jesus through your experience.
